North Vermillion High School announces that Cody Wright will be stepping down from his position as Head Boys Basketball Coach and from his teaching role, effective immediately. Very few individuals are entrusted with leading a high school basketball program in Indiana—fewer still at just 22 years old. In the fall of 2019, North Vermillion alumnus Cody Wright was given that rare opportunity, taking over as head coach just one week into the school year, only a month after turning 22. Wright inherited a program nearing the end of an impressive run, including four consecutive Sectional Championships from 2015 to 2019. He embraced the challenge of rebuilding, navigating back-to-back two-win seasons early in his tenure. Undeterred, Coach Wright's determination and vision began to take hold, and the Falcons returned to prominence under his leadership—capturing a Sectional Championship in 2024 and pushing the eventual state champions to the limit in a thrilling Regional Final. The program’s turnaround—culminating in consecutive seasons with 15 or more wins—is a true testament to Coach Wright’s resilience, leadership, and belief in his players and staff. North Vermillion is deeply grateful for Coach Wright’s dedication and commitment over the past six years. We wish him and his family nothing but the best as they begin their next chapter. The search for the next Head Boys Basketball Coach will begin immediately. We look forward to introducing the next leader of the Falcons soon. As always, it’s a great day to be a Falcon!
