North Vermillion High School has turned to a familiar face in naming Brian Crabtree as its Head Football Coach, bringing him back to lead the Falcons after the 2024 season. The Falcons finished the season with an impressive 9-2 record, securing sole possession of second place in the Wabash River Conference. Crabtree, the 2014 and 2018 1A Coach of the Year, previously served as North Vermillion’s Head Coach from 2012 through the 2023 season, overseeing one of the most successful decades in conference history. During his tenure, he led the Falcons to a historic 2014 IHSAA Class 1A State Championship, defeating top-ranked Pioneer 27-26 in a thrilling title game to secure the school's first football state championship and only its second state title in any sport. Crabtree also guided the Falcons to the 1A State Finals in 2018, where they fell to Pioneer and Notre Dame captain Jack Kiser. From 2012 to 2023, Crabtree amassed 108 victories, captured seven Wabash River Conference championships—including five consecutive titles from 2012 to 2016—and guided the Falcons to an unprecedented 29-game conference winning streak. Under his leadership, North Vermillion also secured its first-ever regional championship with a commanding 31-8 victory over Linton-Stockton, advancing to the semi-state game where the Falcons defeated Indianapolis Lutheran 37-19. Crabtree previously held head coaching positions at North Putnam and North Central (Farmersburg), where he developed competitive programs and instilled a strong foundation of discipline and teamwork. At North Putnam, he guided the Cougars to continued success, while at North Central, he played a key role in revitalizing the program and fostering growth among student-athletes. His experience at these schools helped shape his coaching philosophy, which emphasizes accountability, preparation, and a relentless work ethic—principles that have defined his success throughout his career. With Crabtree back at the helm, the Falcons aim to build upon their recent success and continue their tradition of excellence on the field. His proven track record of developing student-athletes, fostering a winning culture, and maintaining high expectations positions North Vermillion for continued success in the years to come. The program looks forward to his leadership as they prepare for the 2025 season.
