North Vermillion vs. West Vigo Swim Meet Recap – November 25, 2024 The North Vermillion swim teams competed against West Vigo in a thrilling meet Monday evening. The boys’ team secured an impressive 62-20 victory, while the girls’ team battled hard but fell to the Vikings 106-39. Across the board, swimmers delivered outstanding performances and achieved numerous personal bests, highlighting their dedication and progress this season. Team Scores Boys: North Vermillion 62, West Vigo 20 Girls: West Vigo 106, North Vermillion 39 Notable Performances and Personal Bests Girls’ Team Highlights: Medley Relay (Chloe Doan, Taylor Norton, Marki Chambliss, Gabbi Phelps): A fantastic 3.29-second personal best, finishing in 2:43.49. Riley Smith (SO): Placed 3rd in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 33.02, improving by 1.44 seconds. Gabbi Phelps (SO): Finished 4th in the 50-yard freestyle. Placed 2nd in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 8:33.49. Marki Chambliss (FR): Achieved a 2.97-second personal best in the 100-yard butterfly, placing 2nd with a time of 1:32.63. Abby Poole (SO): Placed 6th in the 50-yard freestyle. Finished 4th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 2:38.16. 200 Free Relay (Chloe Doan, Riley Smith, Taylor Norton, Marki Chambliss): Improved by 6.23 seconds, earning 2nd place with a time of 2:29.01. 100 Backstroke: Chloe Doan (SO): Placed 2nd with a time of 1:35.25, dropping 4.62 seconds. Riley Smith (SO): Finished 3rd with a time of 1:38.16. Boys’ Team Highlights: Medley Relay (Brady Dryer, Owen Hazelwood, John Clay, Austin Ball): Won with a time of 2:26.79, improving by 4.39 seconds from last season. Brandon Miller (JR): Claimed victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1.28-second drop, finishing at 2:39.81. Austin Ball (JR): Placed 2nd in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.01, narrowly missing a personal best. 50-yard Freestyle: Brady Dryer (FR): Took 3rd with a time of 32.14. Dylan Lamb (SO): Improved by 2.53 seconds, securing 4th place with a time of 34.47. John Clay (SR): Achieved a 7.7-second personal best in the 100-yard freestyle, placing 2nd with a time of 1:10.22. Payton Russell (SR): Placed 3rd in the 100-yard freestyle, improving by 45.72 seconds to finish at 1:19.82. Took 1st in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:34.92. 200 Free Relay (John Clay, Brandon Miller, Brady Dryer, Austin Ball): Won with a time of 2:00.04, improving by 4.7 seconds from last season. 400 Free Relay (John Clay, Brandon Miller, Brady Dryer, Austin Ball): Closed the meet with a victory, finishing at 4:50.46. Owen Hazelwood (SR): Continued his dominance, winning the 200-yard IM (4:13.51) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:54.67).
