Falcons Sweep South Newton on Senior Night

North Vermillion hosted South Newton on Thursday night for Senior Night and delivered a strong performance on both sides, as the Falcons earned team victories in both the girls and boys meets. Seniors Austin Ball and Brandon Miller were recognized prior to competition and played key roles in the wins. The girls opened the night with a win in diving, as Chloe Doan placed first with a score of 117.70. North Vermillion followed with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay, with Chloe Doan, Taylor Norton, Marki Chambliss, and Riley Smith touching first in 2:34.76. Riley Smith won the 50 Freestyle in 30.42, with Marki Chambliss finishing second and Taylor Norton fourth. Chambliss later picked up another win in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:24.66. Smith added a first-place finish in the 100 Backstroke at 1:20.98, while Norton closed the individual events by winning the 100 Breaststroke in 1:50.28. The girls finished the night with a 48–14 team victory. The boys also put together a complete performance, beginning with a win in the 200 Medley Relay from Karsyn Wallace, Dylan Lamb, Brady Dryer, and Kaleb Stambaugh in 2:37.51. Emery Strubinger won the 200 Freestyle in 2:22.10 and later took first in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:07.22. Austin Ball and Brandon Miller finished first and second in the 50 Freestyle, while Miller added a win in the 100 Freestyle at 1:00.23. Dryer captured first place in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 6:45.37. North Vermillion also earned victories in both freestyle relays, winning the 200 Freestyle Relay in 2:03.81 and the 400 Freestyle Relay in 5:02.14. The boys secured a 72–16 team win. The Falcons will now turn their attention to postseason competition, as the girls prepare for sectional preliminaries this coming Thursday at Crawfordsville High School.
